Calculations are carried out in this order
For example 3 x 2 + 6
(no brackets or indices so multiplication comes first)
3 x 2 = 6 so 6 + 6 = 12
3 x (2 + 6) (brackets come first)
2 + 6 = 8, so 3 x 8 = 24
