Mode, median and mean
Example
Look at this list of numbers
4, 8, 2, 4, 2, 1, 8, 5, 6, 8, 9
Write them in ascending order
1, 2, 2, 4, 4, 5, 6, 8, 8, 8, 9
1, 2, 2, 4, 4, 5, 6, 8, 8, 8, 9
There are more 8’s than any other number
The mode is 8
1, 2, 2, 4, 4, 5, 6, 8, 8, 8, 9
5 is the middle number
The median is 5
Add all the numbers up
1+2+2+4+4+5+6+8+8+8+9 = 57
Divide by 11 (there are 11 numbers in the list)
Answer = 5.1818
The mean is 5.2  (to one decimal place)
To find the missing number from a list
Example
2, 5, 7, __, 11
The mean is 7, multiply this by 5 (the total numbers in the list)
7 x 5 = 35
Add the remaining numbers in the list
2+5+7+11 = 25
Subtract this from the total
35 - 25 = 10
The missing number is 10
and you are given the mean
which in this case is 7
